Waterproof camera and accessory kit

After much researching, I settled on the Canon PowerShot D10. It proved to be a wonderful purchase. We took it in the pool and tried it out and I was very impressed! My daughter (now 10) loves to take pictures and when we go fishing I am always so nervous to hand her a camera. But with this one you have no worries.
Another thing that is impressive is how it takes a picture of moving objects. I took pictures of the kids on swings (in full swing). I had no idea what I would get. I just held the camera out and snapped and they were incredible.
This isn't a pocket camera but we didn't find that to be a problem. The only thing so far that I wish is that it had more zoom. But that's a small trade-off for how worry free the camera is. And the accessory kit was well worth it.

Great Underwater camera - Canon D10

After a thorough review of underwater cameras in a price line of under $500, we settled on the Canon D10. We always snorkel on our Caribbean vacations and typically purchase one of the 1 time use cameras for taking underwater pics. This time we thought we should just go ahead and invest in a "real" underwater camera and were so glad we did. The Canon D10 is great. You can buy just the camera for around $320. Amazon was offering this camera and a 8mb Accessory kit for $369. This was a deal! Included was an extra 8mb card and another battery and other goodies. If you buy this camera.... buy the kit. You need this stuff eventually and this "kit" will save you money. Now.. how was the camera? Unbelievable! The pics are so clear, it is hard to believe the pic is real - looks like something out of National Geographic. We were thrilled! We kept saying how thankful we were that we bought this camera. You won't be disappointed! And it has a video too. Perfect for vacations - compact, durable and waterproof!

I generally take two cameras when I travel. An SLR for the "real" shooting and a smaller camera for "walkabouts" at night etc. After a recent trip, I decided that a waterproof camera would fit the bill at times. I purchased the Powershot D10 for a trip to the Yucatan. Because of the features of being shockproof, freezeproof and waterproof, it does not have the capacity (zoom range) of my usual walkabout camera. That's okay, I knew what I was getting. The camera did surprise me because I got to "test" it early and it functioned very well. I bought the 8GB kit because it had a few extras I wanted. However, the cheesy floating strap seperated when I took the camera from my backpack and boink.... it fell about 5 feet. Hard enough to leave some pitting in the side of the camera. No problem.... the camera still functioned like a champ. It took great pics (for a point and shoot) and held up just fine under water. We snorkeled in a cenote and a salt water lagoon and the camera performed well both times. The battery lasted easily through a whole day of shooting. The D10 is a bit larger than most "pocket" cameras, but fits in a pants or jacket pocket okay. I generally thought the kit was a good deal, except for the cheesy-seperating floating strap (the clip broke and I couldn't use it the rest of the trip.) Two things I did like about the camera: 1) it has a very fast "on" speed and is ready to shoot at a moment's notice, 2) the zoom buttons are a little slower than some making it somewhat easier to frame the shot you want than it is with some point and shoot cameras. One thing I wasn't too crazy about was the power button, which is a bit small for my tastes and sometimes required an extra press or two to turn on. When in Europe I don't think this will be my second camera, but for Hawaii, Yucatan, stormy winters on the Oregon coast etc., this camera seems to fit the bill.

I purchased this camera 4 months ago. I did alot of research before I bought it. I looked at Pentax, Olympus, and 1 other waterproof camera. The canon powershot boasted the best overall reviews on every site I went to. They were not lying when they said it was the best underwater camera out there. I have used it in swimming pool only so far. But was at 10 ft. deep. It took great clear pictures. Have unfortunately dropped it a few times already too. Like a timex it's still ticking like new. Can't wait till warmer weather to use it at Table Rock Lake. The battery life is very long. The flash is great. I believe the flash works so well is because it is directly over the shutter. On the Pentax and Olympus they are off to the side of camera. Not allowing for good flash pictures. Granted the camera is a little bulky but it is much smaller than it looks in pictures. I bought this camera with a package deal. Wouldn't do it any other way. Even with package it was still cheaper thru AMAZON (the greatest online store!) than any local store with only the camera. I personally believe that AMAZON is the greatest online store. I have purchased many items from them and have never had any issues that there customer service did not take care of instantly NO QUESTIONS ASKED!! Any time I am looking to buy something I ALWAYS check out AMAZON first before I purchase !!!!
Canon PowerShot D10 Review

Just got back from a vacation to Cozumel Mexico. I purchased this camera specifically for kayaking, backpacking and snorkeling where an easy to handle camera could be taken into a wet or even a marine environment. In Cozumel, the camera performed as expected while snorkeling. What I was very impressed with, was when I took the camera to "Columbia Reef" on a SCUBA diving trip. It worked well on this first dive to about 25 feet. I got good shot of an Eagle Ray at a distance, and a bunch of colorful fish and coral. Again, this is what I expected. I was going to put the camera away for the next dive. We were headed to the "Palancar Gardens". This dive was going to be to about 45ft and I knew the rated limit for the camera was only 33 feet. The dive master advised that he had seen these cameras much deeper and that I should consider taking it along. I'm glad I did, because this was a great dive. For the record, the camera was exposed to a depth of 53ft with no problems. I am not recommending that the 33ft stated limit be exceeded. What I am recommending is that this camera is an excellent choice for what I bought it for. I do not intend to take it deep like this again. But I now know that sea kayaking, surf photos and rainy backpack trips will not pose a problem for this camera.
